Summertime, and Livin' is Freeeakkk-yyyyy ...

Welcome to the Control Freaks Summer Mini Preview Tour!! You should have just come from the uber-incredible blog of my good friend, Mary Brown! Ohmygosh!!! Did she just totally BLOW YOU AWAY with her use of the Fabulous Florets set??? She is the whole reason I even OWN this thing!!

First off, I am going to do my best to give this set its due justice ... I was not EVEN gonna buy it when I saw it in the preview of the Summer Mini ... I was kinda feelin' like been-there/done-that ... WRONG!! I added a little bleach to these flowers to make them pop a bit more. I am going to have a LOT of fun playing with this set, that's for sure!!

Next, I am using yet ANOTHER one of my mui-fave-fab sets that is soon-to-be-available to all y'all ... The Open Sea. I {{heart}} this set, the DSP, the baker's twine ... ALL of it!!!

And last, but CERTAINLY not least ... this little Ghirardelli Chocolate Box is for my BFF, Jan ... also known as the infamous JanTink - who is celebrating her 50th birthday by participating in this Blog Tour (you go, girl!!)! Since chocolate is a diet staple (as Jan always points out to me!), I figured she DESERVED some for her birthday ... and if that weren't ENOUGH ... the little postage stamps that are wrapping her chocolate squares have been adhered to a magnet sheet ... so she can put them on her fridge and remember how much her friend loves her!!! Happy Birthday, friendy!!! (And YES, this little box IS on its way to ya!!) Smiley from millan.net

  22. Anna, I wasn't sure how to contact you, so I am posting my "instructions" on how I did the sea/sky for "The Open Sea" card here:

Punch a 1 3/8" circle from a Post-It note. Position the the Post-It circle on your cardstock where you want the "sun" to be. Stamp the ship toward the bottom of the circle. I actually inked up the ship stamp a second time, turned the image with the ship on the bottom and the water at the top, then restamped the water again under the first ship image. Does that make sense? Basically, I needed more water at the bottom of my circle, so I just stamped the water part again.

Next, I used some sponge daubers to apply the color. I used Marina Mist on the water, and then used a bunch of colors to create the sunset. Starting at the top edge of the water, I sponged Pumpkin Pie, then above that More Mustard, and then above that some So Saffron. Just start with your darkest color closest to the water and work up to the top and the lightest color. Start with just a little color ... you can always add more, but you can't take any off if you've added too much.

Then, remove the Post-It note and you should have the sun (since the cardstock started out as So Saffron, that is what my sun is. Since no ink hit the spot where the Post-It was, the sun will always turn out to be whatever color the main cardstock color is.

I hope all of that makes sense! I hate trying to write instructions ... sounds like English translated from Latin that was originally written in Chinese!!! Oh well ...
