Creations for World Card Making Day

I got a little bit of time on Sunday to make a couple of cards for the WCMD challenges over on SCS. I love doing challenges . . . they always take me in directions I know I NEVER would have thought of on my own . . .

This first card was for a challenge posted by Scor-Pal to use an upright z-fold. I had the idea to do some sort of woodgrain background thingy (thanks to my pal, Jan - the infamous JanTink . . . she has seriously tainted my stamping universe with her lovely creations!). I was talking to her about her fabulous woodgrain technique when I told her I could make a BLUE woodgrain. She seemed a bit shocked, "Yeaaaahhh, riiighhht!" This is what I came up with. I rubbed my Very Vanilla and Not Quite Navy ink pads over some kraft cardstock. Then, I stamped the woodgrain background stamp from SU in Chocolate Chip ink. Looks purdiful, don't you think?

I posted this card for the challenge posted by the SCS girls (Jenn, Beate and Lori). It was a combo sketch, use-some-chocolate-colored-cardstock-and-make-it-a-thank-you-card challenge. I was also able to get this to fit into the Gina K challenge (to use Old Olive, Very Vanilla and Pumpkin Pie colors) and the challenge posted by Unity Stamps to use a quote as a focal point . . . so there! Got 'er done! GOOD NEWS, too!! I was picked as a winner for the SCS challenge!! Wahooooooo!! (I think it was a random draw sorta thing!) I won an SCS t-shirt. I know, I know . . . you all wish you were ME 'cause I WON!!

HOME Banner

First of all, I cannot take ANY credit for this lovely banner. I saw a similar one on the boards at Convention this year and knew I HAD to try to make one for myself. (CASEing is a GOOD thing, right??) One of the hardest parts about this, though, is that I have NO idea who to give credit to!! Unless they were on the Artisan Award boards, NONE of the cards/projects at Convention were labeled, so I cannot give proper "high fives" to the creator . . . I changed up a few things about it, but all in all the design is not mine . . . so..........if this is YOUR idea, or you know who made it, PLEASE let me know, as I'd LOVE to credit you for your dazzling creation!!

I used my Cricut to cut out the scalloped circles as I don't have the large scalloped circle die for my Big Shot. It is 4 1/2" wide. The Pumpkin Pie circle is 4"; the Chocolate Chip circle is 3 3/4"; and the white circle is 3 1/2".

I stamped the flower images from "Heartfelt Thanks" (LOVE that set FOREVER!), then used a sponge dauber and some ink to soften up the edges a bit (I also did this on the stems, which is from "For All You Do"). I think my friend and I decided that the stems/leaves on the original were hand drawn, 'cause we could NOT find a stamp set ANYwhere that matched it!! (And, boy-oh-boy did we look!)

That's pretty much it. The rest is all pretty self-explanatory. I think it would be fun to do a class with this. You could also do "FALL" or "FAMILY" . . . the possibilities are really pretty much endless with this.

Christmas? Seriously???

The LSC on SCS today was to incorporate a christmas tree image onto our creations. Seriously??? I don't even have my Halloween decorations up yet!! Sheesh!!

I haven't done a challenge card forEVER! So, I made a mess in my stamp room (which I guess I have to clean up!)! I am always amazed at how much of a mess one can make when one makes ONE card!!

FINALLY!!

When I discovered (much to my SHOCK!) that I could submit a project for professional printing/binding using Stampin' Up's new My Design Studio software and receive a little discount ('cause I'm a demo AND 'cause they are letting us do this ONE time in order to promote the software) I was a little flummoxed (GOOD word!)!! It took a bit for it to sink in, though, that the deadline for this offer was September 30!! I have been SOOOO out of the loop since taking our Europe trip that I have practically MISSED the month of September!!

Anywho . . . I put my back into it and this is what I came up with (just finished this baby last night!). THIRTY stinkin' scrapbook pages in just over FIVE days!! ZOINKS!! The BEST part about it is that I don't have a SINGLE scrap of paper, ribbon or ANYthing to clean up! HUZZAH!!

The only unfortunate thing is that there is no way to do a two-page-at-a-time slideshow, and this would be even MORE impressive if you could see the two-page layouts together!! Sigh . . . guess ya can't have EVERYthing!!

OH MY Digital Studio!!

I am currently eating my words . . . in fact, I am eating a LOT of them!! . . . in fact, I am having a veritable FEAST on them!! (Not quite as tasty as the feasts I am enjoying in the pictures on this digital scrapbook page, but a feast, nonetheless!)

While we were at Stampin' Up Convention during the first week of August they introduced us to My Digital Studio - Stampin' Up's answer to the digital papercrafting world. I remember distinctly that my brain went into "sleep" mode ... "Yeah-yeah-yeah," my brain thought. I said to my friend, "I have absolutely NO interest in this. I don't "do" digital scrapbooking." WhatEVER!!

After seeing some of the things that my fellow demos were creating with it, I figured it would at LEAST be worth a try. I ordered it while we were in Germany ... I even uploaded it onto my computer not long after we got home last week. And there it sat ...

As I have been struggling to regain some sense of normalcy with my sleep patterns (jetlag is a drag!), I was up the night before last at about 3:30 a.m. Think-think-think ... what CAN I do at 3:30 a.m.??? Laundry??? Noooooo!!! Cleaning???? Fuggedaboutit!! Paint the house? Don't have any paint ... Soooooooooooooooooooo - I pulled out my trusty laptop and started playing. SOMEBODY STOP ME!!! I am having waaaayyyyy too much fun with this!! I have created 7 pages thus far, and hope to have enough pages completed so that I can finish this off by Wednesday of next week (demos are being offered a little discount on printing/binding of their completed projects until September 30 - gulp!!).

I do not think that this will replace traditional scrapbooking for me, as I am a very tactile person. HOWEVER ... it would be a GREAT way to create memory books as gifts for grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and VERY special friends (as I wouldn't do something THIS fab for just ANYone!). AND, you can make cards, too! Haven't tried that yet, but plan on doing it as well. WHAT FUN!!

Another Pocket Card . . .

I had sooo much fun creating the little turkey pocket card that I did for the Freaks Blog Hop the other day, that I decided to create yet ANOTHER one!! (I have had a serious cold and some jetlag going on since we got home last week, so it is amazing that I have stamped ANYthing, since my thought processes are clogged up due to the congestion in my head!!)

I used yesterday's color challenge on SCS - CC237 - as inspiration for my project.

First, I cut a Very Vanilla piece of cardstock to 8 1/2" x 5 1/4". Next, I made one score line on the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4"; then, I scored 1/2" in from each edge of the 5 1/4" side.

Next, I folded the cardstock on the line I scored at 4 1/4", then cut out the 1/2" x 4 1/4" rectangles created by the score lines in the lower right- and left-hand corners of the cardstock (I hope this makes sense). This left me with a piece of cardstock that had two 1/2" flaps that I used to adhere the card closed. (It helps if you cut a small triangle off at the bottom of the flap - the edge closest to the 4 1/4" score line - just so that the flap will lie flatter when you close it all up).

Don't worry, friends. If all this mumbo-jumbo is confusing YOU (and it is even confusing ME and I wrote it!). I plan on doing a video tutorial soon to show you exactly how this works.

To create the scallop frame, I used my scallop border punch, the 1 3/4" circle punch and the circle scissor. It will sound worse than the instructions I put above if I try to type out step-by-step instructions on how I did it, so you will see what I did in the tutorial. The hints I can easily give you are that (1) I used a 3 1/8" square of cardstock for the black piece, and (2) I used a 2 1/2" square piece of cardstock for the Rich Razzleberry piece. Confusing enough??? I hope not!!

September Tour de Freaks!

Here Come Da Freaks!! It's once again time to hop around the blogs of some of the Control Freaks, and I have to admit that I have as much fun seeing what they come up with as you do. I'm still so honored to be part of the fun!! (The tour officially starts tomorrow - September 20 - but I posted a little early to make sure all my links were working!)

The theme for this month's hop is anything Fall . . . Halloween . . . or Thanksgiving. I absolutely LOVE this time of year! The colors, the holidays - all of it. This first little pocket card (it is a 4.25" square) was really fun to create. Isn't this turkey just adorable? I used the scallop border punch to create the elements framing him as well. The scalloped square started out as a piece of 3 1/8" square piece of cardstock; the Really Rust frame was a 2 1/2" square, and the center was punched out with the 1 3/4" circle punch.

A little hint for the ribbon . . . I used the horizontal slot punch on the right-hand-side fold and slid a small piece of the ribbon through it and around the right side of the circle, then used a glue dot to secure it. I also wrapped the ribbon around the left-hand side of the card and through the left-hand side of the circle. (Pretty much brilliant, don't you think??)

And this is the COOLEST stamp set!! Creepy has never looked so gorgeous! I created the spider web using the 1/4" black grosgrain ribbon. I just "frayed" the ribbon and tied it to look like a web and secured it on the back of the Rich Razzleberry layer with adhesive. Cool, eh? (I think I already said that!)

And last, but not least . . . remember a couple of years ago when we all HAD to have these little "dollar spot" mailboxes?? And we all bought, like, INFINITY of 'em? They are still gathering dust in bags and on shelves . . . admit it . . . you KNOW they are still there!! I decided to dust one off and give it a new life!!




Since I couldn't leave this little mailbox empty, I ran over to the store and bought some suckers (I LOVE that fall also means caramel apple suckers! YUM!!). The sucker was kinda big, so this cover is about 3" square . . .

Auf Wiedersehen . . .

I will be flying high over the Atlantic by the time most of you read this. What a wonderful adventure this has been for my family. I have appreciated all of you coming along for the ride with me (and suffering through my fantastically UGLY cards! Just goes to show that ALL of us start from meager beginnings . . .) I took this photo two days ago when we were visiting the Speyer Cathedral . . . just as breathtakingly beautiful as so many of the places we have seen while we have been here.





Okay, now for a REAL card . . . one you have NOT seen before, and one I had a GREAT time creating. This is all thanks to the infamous JanTink (once again). She posted the most fantabulous tutorial on her blog which you can see here:

Marvelous Magical Marquee Card Tutorial

I called her up after she posted it and praised her magnificence (to which she laughed and agreed). It was her first attempt at a video tutorial and I think she did a splendid job.

Here is the card from the inside . . . I wish you could see how cool the embossing looks . . . I took several photos but was not able to capture the whole magnificence just right . . . sigh . . . I do know, however, that I WILL be making another one of these babies! LOVE it!!

And ..... here I am EATING again!! This was actually one of the most YUMMIEST things I ate. It was a piece of cake that had a meringue on top filled with fresh currants. Oh-my-GOSH!! It was sooooooo good! It will be filling my dreams (aka HAUNTING me!!) for months to come!! I need to learn how to BAKE, people!!!

HATE It When That Happens!

So .... while we were in Heidelberg the other day, a photographer took advantage of the fact that we were all tourists and took a photo of our tour group (this was for the castle tour). Anyway, he took two photos. This is the finished product. And, mind you, this is the ONLY picture I have from our trip where our whole family is in it (after all, SOMEone has to bow out to take the photo - and that is usually ME). The dude on the second row in the blue shirt and the bald headphones guy are NOT part of my family, they were just on the tour with us. (That is the tour guide in the back row on the left - she was darling). But, I digress . . .

As I mentioned the photographer took TWO photos. Then, WHY is it that he picked THIS one??? It seems pretty good from this photo (which is actually a photo of the photo, since I don't have a scanner with me). BUT . . .





Wait for it . . .





Here it comes . . .




MY EYES WERE CLOSED!! (And so were Elke's - she is standing directly behind me.) WHAT??? Wouldn't you think they would pick the BEST photo of the WHOLE group??? TWO of us had our stinkin' eyes closed!! I knew that was going to happen. While we were waiting for him to snap this one the sun came out from behind a cloud and shot us in the eyes. I thought, "I HOPE they pick the first photo, 'cause I think my eyes were closed on that last one!" Odds were NOT in my favor, I guess. Not that it mattered to the photographer, 'cause he sold TWO of them to us (one to me and one to my mother in law). I wonder if they pick the crummy ones just to see if people will buy them anyway? Apparently the answer is YES. They must just like to watch us squirm!!


Check this out . . . they sell ice cream here about every third shop in the tourist towns (and I can't even COUNT the number of ice cream shops I have seen elsewhere!! I thought WE ate a lot of ice cream in the states!!). But, who WOULDN'T want it if it looked like this??? These guys put "31 Flavors" to shame!!


We actually had some of that blue stuff. It was DELISH!!! I wanted to try some of the Waldmeister (the bright green one), but chickened out. I looked it up on the 'net last night and I guess it has kind of a nutty flavor - somewhere between hazelnut and almonds. May have to try it before I go if I see it again.




Here are Devan and I eating our cones (he is trying his best to make dorky faces in every photo now . . . and is succeeding!).





We went to the Technik Museum a couple of days ago. My husband was in HEAVEN, I tell ya!! They had every sort of car and flying machine you could imagine (including Russia's first attempt at a space shuttle - it never made it to outer space). It was really cool. Here I am pretending to pilot a submarine - we walked through one that they had there. I could NEVER live on one of those babies. TOOO small and cramped!! (And with all those bodies in close quarters I can imagine it doesn't smell very good, either!!)

I have a couple of other cards to share with you, but since they each require multiple photos I am giving you a break (after all, you don't wanna be here ALL day!!). I will show them to you later, I guess.

We are off to do a little bit of shopping as we are leaving tomorrow morning. Where DID the time go??? This has surely been the most amazing trip-of-a-lifetime for me!! AND I am bringing home the BESTEST souvenir of all . . . my baby boy!!!
