The End - Parade of UnAward Winning Artisan Projects

So, here we are at THE END ... the Piece de Resistance ... the project I spent more than 20 hours and more money than I wish to admit on .... Smiley from millan.net

When my friend Cheryl (hey, girl!!) and I were brainstorming about what I could POSSIBLY do for a 3D/altered project for my Artisan Award entry we were bouncing all kinds of ideas off of one another ... it's always nice to have more than one brain at work at a time. One thing led to another and then it just hit me ... a COOKBOOK. I said to Cheryl, "No-no-no ... that's a great idea, but there is NO WAY I'm gonna do that much work!" Famous last words ... as soon as the idea was hatched I KNEW that I was not going to be satisfied with anything less ...

Here is my hybrid MDS/tactile cookbook. I'm SO proud of how this turned out!! (And sooo sad that I just pretty much gave it away!).

In all actuality, I had recipes planned to make up 30 pages (there was a whole section on slowcooking in there, too!). I did 6 pages of recipes for each category ... salads, soups, main dishes and desserts.

The hardest, most painstaking part of this baby was actually typing the recipe cards. Since I created those in MDS, the way these are set up require you to type each line on each card separately, since each line is its own text box. And every time I clicked on one it would move ... just a tiny bit ... which would require me to move it back!!

It took me what felt like EONS to get those darn cards typed up. But I am particularly happy with the quilt on the front cover. I love sewing on paper ... and I was really pleased with the outcome on this.

The tabs on the recipe cards are tactile ... meaning that they are punched from real cardstock with real brads. There is a "space" punched out on the recipe card template in MDS that you can fill in with whatever you want. I decided to add a little three-dimensionality to it. The paper on the cover is actual paper from the Sweet Pea dsp kit. All of the paper on the backgrounds inside the book were printed out on my computer using MDS.

I also used MDS to create the word "favorite" for the little oval punch out on the front cover. With some clever punching and masking in the program I was able to mask off the rest of the definition from the favorite stamp ("Define Your Life").

Ever wonder what creative genius looks like at work??? This is it, baby!!! This is what my lovely craft room looked like after finishing the last of my Artisan projects. AAAAAAACCKKKK!!! "A clean desk is the sign of a sick mind ..."

Thankyouthankyouthankyou for allowing me to share my projects with you. And as many thanks for your votes of confidence and encouragement. I really did put my heart and soul into all of these ...

... as did Jan. Here is her final SUPERB project:

Jan's Final Hurrah

so much fun following your parade. The cookbook would be such a fun wedding gift. Thank you for sharing it all with us-I have to agree with others that my small space looks just as bad while I'm on a project. The dining room table gets cleared off in time for the holiday dinner ;)

This cookbook is the "icing on the cake"! Your projects are beautiful! You're a winner in the eyes of your one blog follower--me! While that's not much of a consolation from a non-expert, you are still very appreciated! Thank you for sharing your talent!

Ok Wendy, that picture is hilarious! That gorgeous stamp room looks like a whirlwind. Mine is the same way half the time, sometimes I think we work better, or so we think...in chaos.
Loved all your entries.
See you in SLC!

Hugs,
Di

Thanks for sharing your unaward-winning projects. I can't believe the cookbook (and others) didn't win, and I hurt for you that, as you said, you "just gave it away." Ack! The picture of your stamp room, though, really made me feel better about my own. I can see that you, like me, just move to the next cleanest spot you can find while the creative juices are flowing. We're normal, I just know it! If it makes you feel any better, I think your projects are WINNERS!

THis is an awesome project, and I am really shocked that it didn't win something! Thanks for sharing your projects.

WOW! You went all out which makes the sting a little sharper, I'm sure. Judges! - no one ever knows what they're going to be looking for or how tired their eyes are by the time they get to your artwork. But by displaying them here you know you have a panel of several peers who judge your work to be superior. Congrats and TFS.

Double and triple OMGosh and up you a barrel full of That's Incredible!!
And if by chance, maybe some beautiful girl (ahem...Wendy) did a video tutorial or gave instructions, I would be dancing in the streets!! And, to boot, I have all my recipes on my laptop, so I can just print them out!!
It's been incredible seeing the many projects you just thunk up!!!
Do your ears bleed from all the creativity in your brain that just isn't coming out fast enough!?! Keep it up!

I CANNOT believe that you don't get these items back! Holy cow - that would kill me! That cookbook is fabulous and I'm sure it would be way too much work (and money) to reproduce it for yourself, but you really should try. Any chance you have the recipe cards saved somehow?
This was beautiful - thank you for sharing it.

Oh my gosh, Wendy, I cannot believe how much work went into that cookbook! Typing the recipes line by line would have driven me crazy... The result is gorgeous, though! I can see why you'd be sad to not get this project back!

Your craft room looks a little different from the way I remember it looking in the SS last year... ;P

TFS!
Cindy

Wendy, you have created some incredible cards, scrap pages, and 3D projects!!! I love many of the cards, the farm layout, your incredibly adorable daughter (day 8?) and the recipe book is amazing. It was all an incredible amount of work and not for "ought" as it must have generated an immense amount of creative juices flowing and tremendous satisfaction when you completed everything. Congratulations on this accomplishment!! And thank you so much for sharing all your amazing creations!!

I'm just wowed by your creative genius
and tenacity sticking to that cookbook project!
My mom gave me a plaque years ago that stated
"Genius is seldom tidy"! Her way of consoling herself at my teen-age disaster of a room. LOL
Now, when I create, my space looks like that too.
Thank you very much for sharing your projects and
the process. I think this should be a future article in SS!
