Many of you may remember that I posted a little while back that my husband had FINALLY finished building his own airplane after 10 looonnnnggg years ... and I mean a REAL honest-to-goodness-fly-people-in-it airplane. SUPER cool.
Before a home-built airplane can be flown with passengers in it, it needs to have 40 test hours flown off (I guess to be sure it isn't gonna blow up or crash or anything, right??). A good friend of ours who has been a pilot forEVER was excited enough and kind enough to do this for us (since my husband hasn't flown for so long, he needed to pass a flight review before he could actually fly it, too!). Anywho, I diegress ... long story short, the test hours have finally been flown off and my hubby has finally finished doing his own flight review.
For his birthday this past Thursday, he and his brother flew in the plane to Oregon to help move my niece and nephew-in-law into their new apartment there (my nephew is starting law school in a couple of weeks). This was actually just an excuse for my hubby to fly his plane somewhere ... and was an excellent way for him to spend his birthday!!
I made him this little airplane card for his birthday (and YES, his plane IS actually red!!). Cute, eh?
And this is ME in the cockpit as I was getting ready to go on my very FIRST ride in our new plane. I can't WAIT to get my license so I can fly it by myself!!!

Wendy, I love your card, but the story behind it is amazing!!! Congratulations!!!!! What an accomplishment for your family.
Yowza, Wendy!! Soooo glad it is finally all done!! :) Now...when you coming to Tucson?? :)
Cute card too! Hugs!!!
Fun card and great story!! Hope you have many hours of flying ahead of you!!
Congrats! Just remember "that other women" is an expensive lady to keep:) (but a great way to keep hubby from complaining about what you spend on stamps because it will never equal what he spends keeping a plane)
My dad built an airplane in our garage when I was a kid, so I completely understand the goofiness of it. Great card and congrats to DH for his accomplishment.
OMG Wendy, you are a brave, brave woman. My boss owns a 6 seater Beechcraft & it took me forever to get the courage to go up in that! lol
But really, congrats to hubs for building it himself! And Happy Birthday to him too!!
Wonderful card for your hubby...Congrats to him. I must say, you actually look terrified!!!LOL!!! Hope you are only very, very excited to finally get a ride. Seriously, hope you have a great time learning to fly the plane yourself!
ok there are soooo many things I love about this card (besides the ENTIRE card, that is)...I love the off-set top notes; and I always struggle tying polka dot knots to have the polka dots all showing, but I LOVE the black against the dots!!!
Now, if say, someone, who isn't very savvy, wanted to get their mitts on some "glassy glaze embossing enamel",
where would someone else think with their fingers where they might get it? Anyone.... Pam@
spencerswishes@gmail.com......... pleeezzzzzeeeee someone anyone!
Your card is adorable and I am sure hubby really loved it, but wow, building and flying your own plane, what an awesome story. Congrats to hubby!
