O Pioneers!

We are back from trekking across the Wyoming wilderness with our friends and the youth from our church (who happen to ALSO be our friends!)! It was a wonderful experience. It is always inspiring to see how you can put young people in a situation that is so foreign to them and they will rise to the occasion. We had very few complaints and everyone seemed to get along with one another pretty well. So ... as an ode to the pioneers I put together this little card (which, weirdly enough, has a lot of the same elements as the last card I posted, yet it looks VERY different!!)

Here is a picture of my husband and I in front of Devil's Gate. It was a major landmark for the pioneers as they were making their trek west. One of those things that help you feel like you are making progress (and will help quiet the children's cries of "Are we there yet???) Actually, I was more than inspired by being able to walk where the pioneers walked ... it was very humbling to contemplate the sacrifices that they made in an effort to go someplace where they could make a better life for themselves.

And here is my darling daughter Amelia ... doesn't she look adorable? LOVE the hat!!

This shot made me think of "Little House on the Prairie" ... it was really neat to look at our entire company stretched out across the trail ... it made it easier for me to imagine the pioneers as they must have looked over 150 years ago. Very inspiring, as I said ...

Great post, Wendy! I really like that even though you are an SU! demo, you are not afraid to put other elements on your cards. That embossed frame on the whisper white is beautiful!

Hi Wendy - I am so impressed with your Pioneer Trek. Is there a website where I can find out more info about this? Several years ago I was towing a 5th-wheel trailer from SW NM to ID and a tire blew out on the trailer on I-15 south of Provo. I was ready to cry, but reminded myself of my ancestors who came through this area, against many worse odds. Telling this story to my brother, he asked if I changed the tire myself. I replied, "Heck no, I called AAA!" Another pioneer note, while at convention I had the opportunity to see some of the Days of 47 floats at about 5:30 AM in front of the Salt Palace. With hardly anyone around I got to take some great pictures and swelled with pride and tears imagining what my ancestors went through. Sorry this is long!

Love the pics, the last one really drove home what the pioneers went through to establish Zion. Brings tears to my eyes to think about their sacrifices. TFS

Brought a few sniffles with your stirring rendition of your trip. There you are (probably with sunscreen)...and Amelia gets more gorgeous with each pic of her!!! Love the card--captured the moment!
Makes you grateful for all the fun stuff we have to show our lives, when all they had were paper and pen (if they were lucky--blessed). Please do a separate blog of your trip. Where will you end? xoxoxo

Hi Wendy, this card is lovely. You always include such great little details.

I liked seeing your trip pictures too and reading the narrative.
