Monday Montage #180

And just like THAT, Christmas has come and gone once again. And it was weird. And it was wonderful. And I can't wait until we have a more traditional and (dare I say) NORMAL-ish holiday season NEXT year!! I looooveed being able to be with those I love the most ... even if we did a lot of things virtually. It was different, but it was still great! As much as we SWORE we were taking time "off" for the holiday season, the Monday Montage girls were all ITCHING to play with some of their new toys, so we decided to give you guys a peek!

The ocean is my happy place (or at least one of them!). I was born and raised in California. Though I didn't live right next to the beach, we were close enough that it wasn't a huge deal to drive and spend a day. The sights, the smells, the sounds ... it is all just a peaceful slice of heaven for me. This "Friends are Like Seashells" suite of goodies is the BESTBESTBEST!!! I love the detail you can get from the lovely 3D Embossing Folder. I kept this rather simple, but I love how it turned out!

Stamps: Friends are Like Seashells
Paper: Very Vanilla, Balmy Blue, Petal Pink
Ink: Balmy Blue, Petal Pink
Accessories: Seaside Seashells Dies, Seashells 3D Embossing Folder, Stitched So Sweetly Dies, 3/8" Fine Arts Ribbon, Linen Thread, Clear Epoxy Droplets

Although I know that when the clock strikes twelve on New Year's Eve that we won't be magically transported into the Land of No Covid or Politics, I have hope and faith in humanity. I beleive in science. I believe that most people are good and kind and hardworking. I beleive that things WILL be better this next year. But I also know that it will still take some time. We've made it this far, my friends ... I see the light at the end of the tunnel (even if it seems a little far off at the moment!! HANG IN THERE, BABY!

Freakin' So Sparkly!

Sigh ... yeah ... that's how my whole week has been going!! First off, I am going to apologize right off that I only have ONE project to share with you for this month's Control Freaks Blog Tour (didn't you just LOVE what my bestie Melissa Stout did??)! I seriously need a VACATION!! Don't we ALL???? Second ... I have a few retired things on my card ... because I actually kinda forgot to make something specifically for this blog tour ... and decided to just share this year's family Christmas card ... which I have been working on for over a dang MONTH!!! So there ya go! I'm sure many of you can relate!!

Here's the outside of my card.  It is actually is made from Mellow Moss green cardstock.  And, of course, my photo looks VERY Old Olive green ... despite all the work I tried to do to adjust it!  Yeah ... what else is new???  I knew as soon as I saw this particular sentiment  in the "Christmas Means More" stamp set that it WAS going to be on my Christmas card.  "It's a Wonderful Life" has long been my favorite Christmas movie ... and this just HAD to happen!! Cutting out nearly 500 silver embossed jingle bells??? Yeah ... I went there, too!! But the Red Velvet paper also had to happen! The little bitty silver sequins, the ribbon accents, the twine and the red sparkly glitter I used for the holly berries are ALL retired (but still 100% Stampin' Up)! Sometimes it's ok to use retired things, right??? Tying knots in the baker's twine and gluing each and every dang jingle bell to the knots with individual glue dots was a PAIN in the NECK!! But I liked how it look so well I just went ahead and did it!!

Stamps: Christmas Means More
Paper: Mellow Moss Whisper White, Red Velvet
Ink: Versamark
Accessories: Silver Embossing Powder, Old World Paper Embossing Folder, Sweetest Borders Dies, Very Vanilla/Silver Baker's Twine, Fun Christmas Ribbon (can't remember the name of it!), Real Red Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

Here is our socially-distanced family photo for this year's Christmas card.  And for those of you who are wondering ... YES I DID use My Digital Studio to create it (except for now it is called My Memories Suite).  I am STILL a fan!!

Two more weeks and 2020 will be in the rearview mirror, my friends!! And I KNOW 2021 has a bunch of wonderfulness in store for ALL of us!!

Next up??? Super beautiful and brilliant Bree Renwick! Miss her face in person, but so happy to see what she is creating online!

Monday Montage #179

A little snow this weekend and we are officially feeling more Christmasy! I hope it snows every dang day from now until the end of the year. I'd love to stay home, take cozy naps in front of the fireplace, watch old movies, read ridiculously good books, and take long walks in the snow with my doggie and my hubby! Sounds like a little slice of Heaven, doesn't it?? Throw in some Zoom game sessions with my kids and it would be just about perfect!

And there are now officially 12 days until Christmas ... and I am NOT ready ... and I am NOT motivated ... and I am going to keep hammering through and I will somehow get done with everything and then be glad in the end I did it all. Sound familiar? This year is just SUPER weird, so I'm going to give myself a bye for the rest of the season and call it cool! At least I already had a card in the hopper to share with y'all on this Marvelous Monday Montage Hop!!
I made this card for a core color card challenge ... which means we were challenged with picking one color from each of the core color families and then create something with it. I used a card in the catalog as inspiration and then went with it in my own way. I do like this color combo ... it's rich and bright and lovely all at the same time!

Stamps: Butterfly Gala, Jar of Flowers
Paper: Pool Party, Bermuda Baby, Soft Suede, Blackberry Bliss, Vellum, Copper Foil Sheets
Ink: Whisper White
Accessories: Jar Punch, Butterfly Duo Punch, 3D Lace Embossing Folder, Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack, Whisper White Embossing Powder, Metallic Pearls, Frosted Epoxy Droplets

I'm feeling grateful more than anything right now. Grateful for a healthy family (so far), grateful for a stable source of income, grateful for a house to live in and a car to drive, and grateful for family and friends who continue to make attempts to connect in ways that are new to most of them. My people are my universe ... and I consider all of you in the category of "my people". It's the lovely art of papercrafting that has brought us together and put us in each others' paths ... isn't that NEAT??!? I am counting my blessings every day!

Monday Montage #178

Fa-la-la-la-laaaaa-la-la-la-la!! Yep ... it happened! I am in Christmas mode. I have even put up my Christmas tree and decor ... something I have NEVER EVER done prior to Thanksgiving IN MY LIFE!! This year has just been too much! I was definitely in need of some "joyful and trimphant" feelings, so I just went straight from Halloween decor to Christmas decor ... and I don't even care!! We are having FOUR people at our table for Thanksgiving this year ... FOUR! I am ok with it because we are doing our best to try to stay safe from all the pandemic-dom ... but I feel even less bad now about skipping over my Thanksgiving decor. Thanks to it being time to play with the Monday Montage girls, I went full-on jingle bells with my card!

Cheryl (Curtis ... as in one of my fellow MM girls and my BFF) is out of town. She had a Stampin' Up order arrive and asked if I would run over to her house and get it off the porch for her, which I did. She said I could "play" with her toys if I wanted to, so I did!! Aren't these jingley bells SO MUCH FUN??!?? The detail on the dies is BEAUTIFUL!

Stamps: Cherish the Season
Paper: Very Vanilla, Shady Spruce, Mossy Meadow, Plaid Tidings DSP, Copper Foil DSP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Shady Spruce, Mossy Meadow

This past week has been much too much! We lost my dear uncle last Monday due to complications from diabetes/strokes AND Covid. On Saturday, we lost his sweet sister after a long illness. So my mom has lost TWO siblings in ONE week! UGH!! I am happy for them and the reunion they are having in Heaven with their parents and siblings and other family members who have been gone for years. Sigh ... I am ok, honestly. But it is just a bit overwhelming due to every dang thing else that has been happening!

Fab Friday #202

Every once in a while when the planets align or something, I end up doing two blog posts in one day!! Considering how little I have blogged the last few months, I find this kind of odd! Thanks to my Fab Friday friends I am back writing my second post today. The only thing I did between posting my last one and writing this one was take my doggie for a walk. In other words, I have nothing else fun or interesting to tell you!
Stamps: Well Said
Paper: Mint Macaron, Cinnamon Cider, Bumble Bee, Very Vanilla, Whisper White
Ink: Mint Macaron, Cinnamon Cider, Bumble Bee
Accessories: Detailed Bands Dies, Stitched Leaves Dies, Stitched Shapes Dies, Bumble Bee Gingham Ribbon, In Good Taste Elements

This is a fun combo! I liked playing with them a LOT!

What are YOU all doing for Thanksgiving.  In trying to keep with the recommendations from out state government officials, we are planning on keeping thing VERY small. We will be Skyping/Zooming with my kids who can't be here ... we will be making WAY more food than 4 people can eat ... and we will be grateful for the blessing of family and the health we are currently blessed with.

Freakin' Happy Holidays!

I'm going to make an admission ... and I am CERTAIN that I am not the ONLY one who can admit to this ... I put my Christmas decorations up already. I know, I know ... it's not even Thanksgiving yet! But it IS 2020 ... and everything is VERY wonky this year!! So I was happy that the Control Freaks were playing "Happy Holidays" this month!! You should just have come from the merry blog of Melissa Davies. TOTALLY gets you in the mood for the holidays, right???

First off ... I created some lovely Christmas candles to burn a little brightness into your season. And I am once again using some Plaid Tidings DSP ... because, as I have mentioned before, it is the BEST-BEST-BESTEST!! Took me longer than you would think to make such a simple-looking card ... but I was distracted by Netflix ... and my doggie ... and my cravings for snacks!

Stamps: Sweetest Time, Celebration Tidings
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Mellow Moss, Plaid Tidings DSP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Mellow Moss, Mango Melody, Versamark
Accessories: Silver Embossing Powder, Stitched Shapes Dies, Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack (Whisper White), Hammered Embossing Folder, Stapler

Here are some sweet-sweet candy canes for you to share!! (And there aren't ANY calories in these ones!) The Sweetest Border Dies are the BEST, aren't they?? Black, white and red are good for ANY season!

Stamps: Sweetest Time
Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Plaid Tidings DSP
Ink: Cherry Cobbler
Accessories: Sweetest Borders Dies, Stitched Rectangles Dies, Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack (Whisper White), Textured Embossing Folder, Stapler

It has been ridiculously and unseasonably WARM here in Salt Lake City this past week! We have had snow and and sub-freezing temperatures already ... and somehow we are now back to the mid 60's and low 70's. Our weather seems to be going through menopause or something ... again 2020 ... sheesh!

Next up??? Super clever and creative ... Cindy Elam!! Love her AND her creations!!

Monday Montage #177

Guess where in the heck I am??? I am currently staying in a beach house with my BFF, Bree (as in my Monday Montage buddy), on the Oregon coast - Pacific City!! Can I tell you how LOVELY and AMAZING it is to be here soaking in the peace and tranquility and hanging out with my dear friend???? It is the BEST!! Which brings me to my Monday Montage card for this week ... I am happy to have been able to come up with something using very limited supplies. THEN I had to figure out a place to take a photo ... which really did NOT happen! So I am apologizing ahead of time for the lousy photo. Who knows?? Perhaps I will take another one tomorrow and replace the cruddy one I am posting right now!!

I got the Curvy Celebrations Variety Bundle in the mail the day before I left to head to the coast. Bree told me she was bring Real Red, Mellow Moss, Crumb Cake and Whisper White cardstock with matching ink. So I knew I was going to end up making a Christmas-y card. So here ya go, friends! Not gonna lie ... I'm starting to think I may be one of "those" people this year ... you know the ones I mean ... the ones who put up their Christmas trees BEFORE Thanksgiving!! Hmmmm .... I'm thinking aobut it!

Stamps: Curvy Christmas, Quite Curvy
Paper: Real Red, Mellow Moss, Whisper White
Ink: Real Red, Mellow Moss
Accessories: Curvy Dies, Real Red Braided Ribbon Trim

Fab Friday #201

Sadly, I missed the last Fab Friday Stampin' Challenge ... our 200th!! Sigh ... sometimes I just get so busy that I forget where I am and what I am supposed to be doing.  To be honest, that is what happened to me last go 'round! I ended up going with my hubby, my son, his buddy and his girlfriend back down to Rockville, Utah (by Zion National Park). It was glorious and relaxing and a much-needed walkaway from the world for a while. I skinned my knees pretty good on one of the hikes we did, but wouldn't change the experience for anything! I LOVE the outdoors, especially with people who mean so much to me.

I think that the whole election this year has exhausted me (as it has every one). Doesn't matter what side of the political spectrum you are, there is nasty and name-calling and better-than-you assumptions being leveled at every side.  I believe that the vast majority of Americans are good and kind and just wanting the country to be on the same page with itself ... and that is what I am hoping happens by the time all is said and done.  I've always been a true believe of "love one another' ... and I believe we will get back to some point of that before too very long.

So as I sat down to make this card I was feeling very uninspired ... too drained from what has been happening in our country, our world ... and then I was reminded by a dear friend of mine who had posted this on his FB page - "Plot twist: 2020 has actually been the best year of your life. You've faced challenge after challenge, you've adapted, and you've overcome. 2020 has forced you to grow exponentially. Don't take that for granted." Pretty profound, eh??? I choose to try to face the coming days with this in mind as I get out of bed ... we can do hard things and come out stronger at the other end.  Just keep on being YOU ... the world will follow behind!

With all that deep thinking, I finally was able to clear my mind and make this card for the Fab Friday Stampin' Challenge ... and then I went and took my doggie for a walk, came home and add a delicious chocolate caramel apple made for me by my sweet friend, Cheryl.   We are good, you guys ... don't let what you see on the news every day change your mind about that!

Stamps: Monogram Messages
Paper: Whisper White, Petal Pink, In Good Taste DSP
Ink: Early Espresso
Accessories: Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack, Good Taste Elements, Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder, Trio Corner Punch, Metallic Pearls, Stitched So Sweetly Dies

I couldn't stop myself from doing a "more-is-more" version of this fun sketch!

My sweet mama had her 85th birthday on Tuesday.  With her officially being on hospice, there is a very good chance that she may not be around to celebrate another birthday.  We had a small group of family get together to give her a surprise birthday dinner.  It was lovely ... the look of love and joy she glowed with all night were worth the effort ... and lasted clear into the next day. Her day nurse called me after her visit and said, "Your mom was just so SO happy today!" I knew why .... and my heart was smiling.

Monday Montage #176

I KNOW I have mentioned this before ... but don't ya just LOOOOVE it when one season just SLAMS into another one (NOT!)??!?? Welcome to life in Utah ... where it can be 72 degrees one day and 28 degrees with snow on the ground the next!!! I would really LOOOOVE it if we could have a little bit of fall going on here instead of skipping it and going straight from summer into winter!!! SHEESH!! Good thing I got to stay inside and keep cozy while playing with some paper and stamps!! Welcome to another round with the Monday Montage girls!!

The Plaid Builder Dies ... I want them to live FOREVER as a current product in the catalog!! I really enjoy playing with them and putting different color combos together!! And I'm weird ... I absolutely LOVE sleeping in a tent!! It is just very peaceful and relaxing for my mind and body (thanks to the wonderful super-awesome air mattresses we own!)!! The Campology Stamp Set just makes me long for another river trip and setting a tent up on the banks of some-such place like the Flathead River in Montana!! Slice of HEAVEN!!!

Stamps: Campology
Paper: Old Olive, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso, Bumblebee, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla
Ink: Old Olive, Early Espresso
Accessories: Celebration Label Dies, Plaid Builder Dies, Stitched Shapes Dies, Cinnamon Cider Ribbon, Metallic Pearls, In Good Taste Elements

Gratitude - Freakin' Thankful!

I'm back playing with the Control Freaks again!! I am the one that makes the schedule and gets everyone all lined up ... and last month I totally and COMPLETELY spaced it!! I was a whole day behind myself (at least in my brain I was!)!! Happy to report that I actually remembered this month ... AND had my cards done a day in advance to boot!! YAY ME!! Did you just come from the blog of the cleverly-talented Connie Babbert??? She is gonna cost me money, that woman!! I saw a different card on her FB page earlier today that made me CERTAIN I need a bundle that I didn't even hardly register in my brain until I saw her card ... always SOMEthing incredible coming out the ends of her fingers, that's for sure!

I used the "Arrange a Wreath" stamp set and the Wreath Builder dies to NOT make a wreath. I wanted to evoke a "leaf storm" ... I love walking through the canyon by my house and have the leaves come falling down as I walk on by.  I love the sights, smells and colors. My most FAVORITE time of the year for SURE!! I took three little pieces of the Braided Linen Trim and BRAIDED them together to make the little accent rope.

Stamps: Arrange a Wreath
Paper: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Ink: Bumblebee, Cajun Craze, Crumb Cake, Cinnamon Cider, Early Espresso, Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow,
Accessories: Wreath Builder Dies, Stitched Rectangle Dies, Subtle Embossing Folder, 3/16" Braided Linen Trim

Here is my version of a "fall picnic".  I was really struggling with what to do with the pumpkin border image I had created once I had finished coloring it.  Then I remembered the Buffalo Check background ... PERFECT! It just seems to be the best compliment sometimes. I cut another piece of the Braided Lined Trim for this card ... and kind of pulled it apart to give it a whole different look. I am really drawn to all of the natural fibers when it comes to ribbon and trim!

Stamps: Celebration Tidings, Buffalo Check
Paper: Very Vanilla, Mossy Meadow, Pumpkin Pie
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Pear Pizzazz, Mossy Meadow, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso
Accessories: Celebration Labels Dies, 3/16" Braided Trim, Metallic Pearls

We spent the last four days in one of our family's most-loved and favorite places ... Rockville, Utah ... it's about 5 minutes outside the entrance to Zion National Park.  LOTS of hiking and soaking in the beautiful colors. I could have stayed for another week or two and not even have felt the time pass!

Next up??? The other half of my "Connie Sandwich" ... Connie Tumm!! She NEVER disappoints as she ALWAYS comes up with incredibly creative things!

Monday Montage #175

And just like THAT we slammed from summer into fall! It was in the 80's on Saturday and didn't get much past the 50's today ... weather can be SOOO weird!! On the plus side, I FINALLY finished getting all of my Halloween decorations up! I'm very sad that, due to the stupid-dumb COVID-19 thing, we aren't feeling good about the whole trick-or-treat thing. Halloween is my favorite ... NEXT year is gonna be EPIC! In the mean time, we are here to play with the Monday Montage girls! YAY!!

And once again here is a creation that made me ride the struggle bus the ENTIRE time!! I KNEW I wanted to use the Camouflage background stamp ... which is the first thing I did. Then I couldn't figure out WHAT to do with it next! I'm still not sure this is quite what I had in mind, but at least I got SOMEthing put together!

Stamps: Camouflage, Celebrate Sunflowers, Celebration Tidings
Paper: Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, Blushing Bride. Flirty Flamingo, Whisper White
Ink: Mossy Meadow, Flirty Flamingo, Pear Pizzazz, Mango Melody
Accessories: Detailed Bands Dies. Sunflowers Dies, Flowers for Every Season Gems, Wink of Stella, Shimmery Crystal Effects

Monday Montage #174

We could not have asked for a more beautiful weekend. Our skies outside were cool and clear. The colors and smells of fall were in the air. i got some crafty projects done and even some laundry and housecleaning! YAY ME!

I sat down and kept getting distracted whilst I was trying to find inspiration to create something. I finally came up with an idea using the Banners Stamp Set. I made a fun little strip of images using the cute stamps in the Banners Set. I also brushed some Whisper White ink over the top of the Old World Paper embossed piece ... kinda made it look cob-webby!!

Stamps: Banners
Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie Glimmer DSP
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Black Stazon, Garden Green, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Accessories: Old World Paper Embossing Folder, Whisper White Baker's Twine, Whisper White Embossing Powder, Flowers for Every Season Ribbon
